How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Bali?

Prices depend mostly on the model. These are typical daily rates from Bali rental shops in 2026:

• Honda Scoopy (110cc): IDR 80,000–140,000/day — light, cheap, fine for one person around town
• Honda Vario (160cc): IDR 100,000–180,000/day — the default all-rounder, more pull for hills and two-up riding
• Yamaha NMAX (155cc): IDR 150,000–280,000/day — bigger maxi-scooter, comfortable for longer runs
• Honda PCX (160cc): IDR 220,000–320,000/day — the priciest common option, most comfort

Weekly and monthly: where the real saving is

Quoting a single per-day figure is misleading, because the price per day drops sharply the longer you keep the bike. A week is usually 30–40% cheaper per day than the daily rate; a month is cheaper still. Typical monthly rates run IDR 900,000–1,500,000 for a Scoopy, IDR 1,000,000–1,800,000 for a Vario, and IDR 1,600,000–2,500,000 for an NMAX — an effective daily cost 50–60% below the daily rate. If you are staying more than about ten days, ask for the weekly or monthly price rather than paying by the day.

The cost nobody quotes: what a scratch or theft actually costs you

The IDR 80,000 figure buys you the bike, not protection. Most cheap rentals include no real insurance, so a dropped scooter means you pay for the repair, and a stolen one means you owe the shop its replacement value — often several million rupiah, occasionally the full price of the bike. Better operators cap your liability with a damage excess of around USD 95 (about IDR 1,600,000), which is worth paying a little more for. Protect yourself either way: photograph the bike from every angle at handover so existing scratches are not billed to you, and only ever leave it in paid or guarded parking.

What else you pay: fuel, deposit, delivery

Fuel is on you and is cheap. Pertamax costs about IDR 13,500 a litre, so a full tank is IDR 55,000–70,000 and lasts several days of normal riding; you refuel yourself at the green Pertamina pumps rather than the roadside bottle stalls, which charge a little more. On deposits, reputable shops now photograph your passport rather than holding it, and many take no cash deposit at all — walk away from anyone who wants to keep your physical passport. Most shops also deliver the bike free to your accommodation in Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Ubud or Sanur; airport or long-distance delivery adds a fee.

What moves the price

Beyond the model, three things swing the rate: rental length (longer is cheaper per day), location (Canggu and Uluwatu sit at the top of each range, Ubud and Sanur at the bottom), and season. Rates and availability tighten over the July–August peak and the Christmas–New Year weeks, so book ahead then rather than turning up expecting the low end.
